Buddy is one lovable guy, and a clumsy klutz. Throughout the MySims series, he serves as a bellhop at the Town Hotel, a utilities advisor[1], a minigame/festival host, King Roland's Royal Messenger, the Special Agent's sketch artist, and a pilot. Buddy only has a minor role in MySims, but he serves as the player's sidekick in MySims Kingdom and MySims Agents.

Game roles[]

Official descriptions[]

MySims Property Bible[]

Buddy is your basic loyal hotel employee. He even stayed put after the town went downhill. Now that you've come to fix things up, he's sure things will turn around. He may be clumsy and friendly to a fault, but when you need someone to pick up your luggage he's your man!

"All this activity is making me a better bellhop. I only tripped nine times today!"

MySims Kingdom Prima Official Guide[]

Buddy may not be the sharpest tool in the drawer, but his infinite optimism and loyalty make him a great friend to have around.[2]

Brian Kaiser's website[]

When the hotel’s business started to suffer, the employees started to seek out new opportunities. Eventually only one was left: the most enthusiastic and least capable of the whole staff, Buddy the Bellhop. Buddy is a simple guy who only wants two things out of life: to be the best bellhop he can be, and candy. As the only one still on duty he could promote himself to Hotel Manager, but Buddy isn’t really “cut out” for that kind of work. No, if there’s two things Buddy’s learned in life, it’s stick to what you know and don’t touch the stove when it’s hot.[3]

Vic's Buddy Figurine dialogue[]

"Whoa, that Buddy guy got his own figurine? Where'd you pick that one up? It looks like the artist really captured his personality well. In my professional opinion, I'd guess it'l be a classic in a few years. Hold on to that one, dude."

The Sims 4 trophy[]

There is no better sidekick than your ol' pal, Buddy. Supportive, optimistic, and fiercely loyal, he'll stick by your side through any adventure. Last seen moonlighting as a special agent.

MySims: Cozy Bundle page on Nintendo.com[]

Nintendo MSCB Buddy profile
A lovable klutz who loves to help others. With his cheerful demeanor, Buddy is always ready to lend a hand or offer encouragement.[4]

EA.com[]

Buddy is exactly what his name promises: your biggest fan and most loyal pal. He’s cheerful, funny, and always up for a hang, from big adventures to a lazy afternoon. Sure, he’s clumsy, simpleminded, and may answer a deep question with something about his hat, but that’s part of his charm. And way better than falling flat on his face… because he will.[5]

Biography[]

Personality[]

Buddy can be characterized by his friendliness, optimism, loyalty, clumsiness, and occasional cowardice. He also seems to be easily impressed, having never seen glowsticks before visiting Candypalooza. Buddy is also easily distracted and airheaded. In MySims Kingdom, he calls Princess Butter, Goth Boy, and Yuki "nice" when they are inconveniencing the Royal Wandolier. In MySims Agents, he nonchalantly asks Beebee if she would like Preston's remains, seemingly not understanding the gravity of Preston's disappearance. However, Buddy occasionally proves he's smarter than people think, like when he shares his knowledge of a three act structure on Trevor Island and his knowledge of astronavigation when Lyndsay believes the Royal Boat is lost at sea.

Likes and dislikes[]

Buddy is interested in Geeky, Tasty, and Fun. He dislikes anything Spooky. His hobbies include playing video games, eating food, reading comics, and drawing comics of his own. His favorite webcomic is called Nickel Gallery.[6]

Buddy also has a softspot for animals. The first time the player can talk to Buddy on Capital Island, he laments that a kitten won't be his friend. Throughout MySims Kingdom, Buddy has a carrier pigeon named Guillermo to aid him as the Royal Messenger. On the Forest of the Elves, Buddy tells anecdotes about his pet frog Leopold and hedgehog Balthasar. At the Jungle Temple, it is revealed that he had pet hamsters named Evelyn and Lyndsay. The only animals he seems to be cautious of are spiders, Filbert (because of his size), and hummingbirds (Buddy says they are "vicious predators" while traveling to Spookane).

Buddy never mentions his favorite genre of music, but seems to enjoy DJ Candy's music on the turntable and Leaf's music on the electric guitar.

Early life[]

As a child, Buddy was raised on a farm, where he often ate wispyweed stew.[7] He played the horn and learned how to salute in a marching band.[8] He also had a clarinet called "Trevor" in school, but he never played it.[9] His dialogue during the "A Night to Remember" task at The Royal Academy seems to imply he studied at a school with blue and gold as its colors, or that he's only familiar with schools with that color scheme.

Health[]

Buddy is always tripping, but never gets seriously injured. He has a number of food allergies, including crab and sunflowers (revealed in MySims Kingdom) and pudding (revealed in MySims Agents). One of his idle animations in MySims Kingdom is sneezing, likely due to his allergies.

Relationships[]

Lyndsay[]

Buddy and Lyndsay are the Wandolier's sidekicks in MySims Kingdom. Although they're friends, Lyndsay often gets frustrated with Buddy's antics. Buddy does not seem bothered by her nagging, though he does say "I think you're mean sometimes" when Lyndsay tells him he thinks everyone is nice. At The Royal Academy, Lyndsay is offended when Buddy doesn't ask her to dance.

At the start of MySims Agents, Buddy and Lyndsay do not know each other since the story takes place in a separate continuity. When they meet at the Jungle Temple, Buddy says she seems familiar. Like in MySims Kingdom, they work together to help the player solve the temple's mystery. During One More Time, Lyndsay sees a nightmarish vision of her married to Buddy.

Princess Butter[]

Princess Butter acts out as a bully to Buddy, Lyndsay, and the Wandolier, but really, she is jealous of their friendship. Buddy is sympathetic to her loneliness and thinks that deep down, she is nice.

Sir Vincent Skullfinder[]

In MySims, Buddy and Sir Vincent will perform "be mean" interactions to each other because Buddy dislikes Spooky, Sir Vincent's primary interest.

In MySims Kingdom, Buddy correctly guesses that Sir Vincent has malicious intentions on The Uncharted Isle. However, he only had a bad feeling because of Sir Vincent's dark clothing.

Appearance[]

Buddy has pale skin, short blonde hair that's combed to the side, and a big toothy smile. His eyes are small black dots with a wide space between them. The whites of his eyes are only visible when he's shocked. His eyebrows are small and black with no curvature. He also has blush underneath his eyes. In MySims and MySims Party (Wii), he has freckles across the center of his face.

MySims, SimCity Creator, MySims Party, MySims Racing[]

Buddy wears a red hat with a black rim and a golden Plumbob emblem and a red collarless button down shirt with long sleeves, six golden buttons, a golden bow tie, and other gold accents. He also wears black dress pants and black shoes with gold accents. He has a keychain attached to his hip.

Alternate outfit[]

If a player has Buddy on their team while playing Bell Hopscotch, the host Buddy will wear an alternate outfit to differentiate the two Buddies from each other. His alternate outfit is exactly the same, but in blue instead of red.

MySims Kingdom[]

Buddy wears a bright red, flat-topped hat with a golden-yellow trim and a golden emblem on its side. The emblem shows the profile of a unicorn. He wears a long red coat with gold trim and buttons, gold shoulderblades, and a white undershirt that shows beneath his coat and past his wrist. He wears gray trousers, long black tights, and brown dress shoes with shoelaces.

MySims Agents[]

At the start of the game, Buddy wears a backwards red ball cap, a red tee shirt with a yellow comic shape, a white long sleeve shirt underneath, blue jeans, and red sneakers with white soles, yellow laces, and yellow accents. He also carries a green satchel on his shoulder and a pencil behind his ear.

Once the player unlocks the Headquarters, Buddy undergoes a special agent makeover. He then wears black shades, a striped white button down shirt, a red tie, a black vest with a silver badge, black slacks, a black belt, and black shoes. This marks the first time in the series that he doesn't wear a hat.

MySims SkyHeroes[]

Buddy wears a light red collarless button down with long sleeves with dark red segmented stripes, brown gloves with bronze accents, light green pants with dark green segmented stripes, and brown boots. He also has windblown hair, bronze goggles, and a bronze rocket-shaped backpack with brown straps.

  • Buddy appears in MySims Puzzle Party.
  • One of the soundtracks for Buddy's hotel plays in The Sims 3 when Sims go to the grocery store.[10]
  • A Sim named Buddy appears in The Sims Social. He has a pale skin, a smile, a red shirt, and a sunny disposition like the MySims Buddy. He also has brown hair, like Buddy did in pre-release images. It is possible they are meant to be the same Sim.
  • Buddy appears in The Sims 4 as a common MySims trophy that can be collected by players.
    • Strangely, the description states his last appearance was as an agent, ignoring his actual last appearance in MySims SkyHeroes.
    • Buddy's trophy appears again in The Sims Mobile as an heirloom charm.
  • There is a decoration item in The Sims 4: Get to Work called "Benny Bones", which is obviously Buddy with a different name.
  • Buddy appears in The Sims 4: Snowy Escape as one of the "Simmi" collectables.

Trivia[]

Development[]

  • The original artwork from the beta version of MySims depicts Buddy with brown hair instead of blond. This artwork was later reused during the installation of MySims (PC).
  • In the beta version of MySims Agents, Buddy wears his comic artist outfit throughout the whole game.

Inconsistencies[]

  • Throughout the series, Buddy goes on about being hungry and appears to have a slight obsession with food. However, his primary interests are Geeky in MySims and Fun in MySims Kingdom, rather than Tasty or Food. However, Tasty is his secondary interest in MySims.
    • In MySims Kingdom, his interest is Fun instead of Tech and Food (the MySims Kingdom equivalent to Geeky and Tasty), even though Fun is not one of his interests in the first MySims game.
    • The Tasty icon appears in Buddy's thought bubble during the flashback in the final cutscene at the Boudreaux Mansion.
  • Before talking to Elmira Clamp after her first task in MySims Kingdom, Buddy may ask the player why a cat won't be nice to him. However, there are no cats on Capital Island.
  • Buddy will often sneeze when idle in MySims Kingdom. He does not do so in any other game.
  • In the trailers for MySims Party and MySims Racing, Buddy is wearing his Royal Messenger uniform from MySims Kingdom, whereas in both games, he wears his bellhop uniform.
  • Buddy is seen dancing in the MySims Racing (Wii) trailer, even though he only appears in the DS version.

References[]

  • In MySims Kingdom, when Rosalyn asks the player to put her podium back, Buddy says something about making her a podium sounding strangely familiar. This is a reference to the player's first task in MySims.
  • In MySims Kingdom, Lyndsay sarcastically tells Buddy that Cowboy Junction is "inhabited by a race of strange fish-people." Then, in MySims Agents, when the player tells Buddy about the potential second yeti, he compares the case to "an island of fish people."
  • In MySims Agents, Sapphire's second dispatch mission is called Red Buddy, after her new energy drink with the same name. A likely reference to Buddy and the Red Bull energy drink.

Statistics[]

  • Buddy is the only Commercial Sim in MySims to give a blueprint as a best friend reward and to not give tasks.
  • Buddy is one of only 2 Sims in MySims who cannot be kicked out or relocated, along with Rosalyn P. Marshall.
  • Buddy is one of 4 Sims in MySims without a starting bed that does not request one. The others are Makoto, Mel, and Rosalyn P. Marshall.
  • Buddy is the only character in MySims Agents with multiple dialogue icons:
    • Agent Buddy artist With a red backwards hat (start of the game)
    • Agent Buddy With a pair of black sunglasses (after he changes his outfit in the Derobenator 9000 at Headquarters)
    • Agent Buddy as Cyrus In his Cyrus Boudreaux costume (briefly at the Boudreaux Mansion)

Other[]

  • During the credits of MySims Kingdom, Buddy is dancing with both Capital Island and Candypalooza.
  • Buddy is seen for the first time in the series without a hat or head accessory in MySims Agents.
  • Buddy already knew about the Turkey-on-a-Fork stand at The Boardwalk, meaning he may have previously visited it or learned about it otherwise.
