Buddy is one lovable guy, and a clumsy klutz. Throughout the MySims series, he serves as a bellhop at the Town Hotel, a utilities advisor[1], a minigame/festival host, King Roland's royal messenger, the Special Agent's sketch artist, and a pilot. Buddy only has a minor role in MySims, but he serves as the player's sidekick in MySims Kingdom and MySims Agents.

Nintendo.com Profile[]

Nintendo MSCB Buddy profile

A lovable klutz who loves to help others. With his cheerful demeanor, Buddy is always ready to lend a hand or offer encouragement.[2]

Biography[]

Buddy can be characterized by his friendliness, optimism, loyalty, clumsiness, and occasional cowardice. He is also naive; in MySims Kingdom, he says Princess Butter and Yuki are nice, even when they are inconveniencing the player for selfish reasons.

Buddy enjoys playing video games, reading and drawing comics[3], and eating food. However, he has a number of food allergies, including crab and sunflowers (revealed in MySims Kingdom) and pudding (revealed in MySims Agents).

As a child, Buddy was raised on a farm, where he often ate wispyweed stew.[4] He had pet hamsters named Evelyn and Lyndsay. He also had a clarinet "called Trevor" that he never played.[5] He can play the horn, though: he learned how in a marching band where he also learned how to salute.[6]

Relationships[]

Lyndsay[]

Buddy and Lyndsay are the player's sidekicks in MySims Kingdom. Although they're friends, Lyndsay often gets frustrated with Buddy's airheadedness. Buddy does not seem bothered by her nagging, though he does say "I think you're mean sometimes" when Lyndsay tells him he thinks everyone is nice.

Appearance[]

Buddy has pale skin, short blonde hair that's combed to the side, and a big toothy smile. His eyes are small black dots with a wide space between them. The whites of his eyes are only visible when he's shocked. His eyebrows are small and black with no curvature. He also has blush underneath his eyes. In MySims and MySims Party (Wii), he has freckles.

MySims, SimCity Creator, MySims Party, MySims Racing[]

Buddy wears a red hat with a black rim and a golden Plumbob emblem and a red collarless button down shirt with long sleeves, six golden buttons, a golden bow tie, and other gold accents. He also wears black dress pants and black shoes with gold accents. He has a keychain attached to his hip.

Alternate outfit[]

If a player has Buddy on their team while playing Bell Hopscotch, the host Buddy will wear an alternate outfit to differentiate the two Buddies from each other. His alternate outfit is exactly the same, but in blue instead of red.

MySims Agents[]

At the start of the game, Buddy wears a backwards red ball cap, a red tee shirt with a yellow comic shape, a white long sleeve shirt underneath, blue jeans, and red sneakers with white soles, yellow laces, and yellow accents. He also carries a green satchel on his shoulder and a pencil behind his ear.

Once the player unlocks the Headquarters, Buddy undergoes a special agent makeover. He then wears black shades, a striped white button down shirt, a red tie, a black vest with a silver badge, black slacks, a black belt, and black shoes. This marks the first time in the series that he doesn't wear a hat.

Buddy as a Simmi in The Sims 4: Snow Escape.

  • Buddy appears in MySims Puzzle Party.
  • One of the soundtracks for Buddy's hotel plays in The Sims 3 when Sims go to the grocery store.[7]
  • A Sim named Buddy appears in The Sims Social. He has a pale skin, a smile, a red shirt, and a sunny disposition like the MySims Buddy. He also has brown hair, like Buddy did in pre-release images. It is possible they are meant to be the same Sim.
  • Buddy appears in The Sims 4 as a common MySims trophy that can be collected by players. His description reads: "There is no better sidekick than your ol' pal, Buddy. Supportive, optimistic, and fiercely loyal, he'll stick by your side through any adventure. Last seen moonlighting as a special agent."
    • Strangely, the description states his last appearance was as an agent, ignoring his actual last appearance in MySims SkyHeroes.
    • Buddy's trophy appears again in The Sims Mobile as an heirloom charm.
  • There is a decoration item in The Sims 4: Get to Work called "Benny Bones", which is obviously Buddy with a different name.
  • Buddy appears in The Sims 4: Snowy Escape as one of the "Simmi" collectables.

Trivia[]

Development[]

  • Buddy is voiced by Greg Cipes.
  • The original artwork from the beta version of MySims depicts Buddy with brown hair instead of blond. This artwork was later reused during the installation of MySims (PC).
  • In the beta version of MySims Agents, Buddy wears his comic artist outfit throughout the whole game.

Inconsistencies[]

  • Throughout the series, Buddy goes on about being hungry and appears to have a slight obsession with food. However, his primary interests are Geeky in MySims and Fun in MySims Kingdom, rather than Tasty or Food. However, Tasty is his secondary interest in MySims.
    • In MySims Kingdom, his interest is Fun instead of Tech and Food (the MySims Kingdom equivalent to Geeky and Tasty), even though Fun is not one of his interests in the first MySims game.
    • The Tasty icon appears in Buddy's thought bubble during the flashback in the final cutscene at the Boudreaux Mansion.
  • Before talking to Elmira Clamp after her first task in MySims Kingdom, Buddy may ask the player why a cat won't be nice to him. However, there are no cats on Capital Island.
  • Buddy will often sneeze when idle in MySims Kingdom. He does not do so in any other game.
    • Sneezing is an idle animation often associated with Cute townies.
  • In the trailers for MySims Party and MySims Racing, Buddy is wearing his royal messenger outfit from MySims Kingdom, whereas in both games, he wears his bellhop uniform.
  • Buddy is seen dancing in the MySims Racing (Wii) trailer, even though he only appears in the DS version.

References[]

  • In MySims Kingdom, when Rosalyn asks the player to put her podium back, Buddy says something about making her a podium sounding strangely familiar. A reference to the player's first task in MySims.
  • In MySims Kingdom, Lyndsay sarcastically tells Buddy that Cowboy Junction is "inhabited by a race of strange fish-people." Then, in MySims Agents, when the player tells Buddy about the potential second yeti, he compares the case to "an island of fish people."
  • In MySims Agents, Buddy references MySims Kingdom when he says Lyndsay seems familiar.
  • In MySims Agents, Sapphire's second dispatch mission is called Red Buddy, after her new energy drink with the same name. A likely reference to Buddy and the Red Bull energy drink.

Statistics[]

  • In MySims, Buddy is the only Commercial Sim to give a blueprint as a best friend reward and to not give tasks.
  • In MySims, Buddy is one of only two Sims who cannot be kicked out or relocated, along with Rosalyn P. Marshall.
  • In MySims Agents, Buddy is the only character with multiple dialogue icons:
    • With a red backwards hat (start of the game)
    • With a pair of black sunglasses (after he changes his outfit in the Derobenator 9000 at Headquarters)
    • In his Cyrus Boudreaux costume (briefly at the Boudreaux Mansion)

Other[]

  • During the credits of MySims Kingdom, Buddy is dancing with both Capital Island and Candypalooza.
  • In MySims Agents, Buddy is seen for the first time in the series without a hat or head accessory.
  • In MySims Agents, Buddy already knew about the Turkey-on-a-Fork stand at the Boardwalk, meaning he may have previously visited it or learned about it otherwise.
