Hi MySims Wiki,
I came across some tab pages that were missing Template: Tab Articles. In the revision history for Barney (MySims Agents), Napstachill mentioned that blue background is eye straining. While I have to agree, I believe that we should keep the tab template since it allows users to see when the tab ends and the rest of the page begins. However, we can still change the colors to be eye pleasing.
In the design industry, accessibility checkers such as WebAim.org are regularly used to make sure text is legible for all users. As I expected, the wiki's current tab background color (hex color #08a7ff) paired with white text (#ffffff) fails the accessibility tests:
Switching the text to black, however, makes the color combination pass the accessibility tests:
However, I find that the blue background is still too bright. I switched the background color to a much more muted blue (#E7F0F2). I chose this color because it actually appears in the user interface of MySims (for example, see the map's sidebar here). This color combination scores an even higher score on the contrast ratio:
But what do you think? Do you like this color combo? I wanted to get feedback from other users before making a change. If you want to try a new color combination, you can plug it in here and see if it passes the accessibility tests.
